Housing in Old Naledi

Location: Gaborone, Botswana

Year: Spring, 2016

Old Naledi, originally an informal settlement in Gaborone, Botswana is being threatened by the government of Gaborone to be bulldozed and developed into housing for the wealthy. Alternatively our studio proposed that development be provided for the existing community be means of thoughtful, affordable architectural intervention. My scheme involved studying the theory of the placement of markets and how they can start to generate nodes of circulation where culture can start to grow and develop from the interior of this informal settlement.By supplying the basic structure and water cores for a building and allowing the community to fill in the rest, I was able to achieve this goal of centralization.
